Burundi, like other countries in the East African Community, has been hard hit by the El Niño phenomenon, with torrential rains triggering landslides, flooding leading to the displacement of populations, and the presence of water in Lake Tanganyika. The city of Bujumbura and the Gatumba region, on the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, were severely affected. The total cost of the Bank's emergency aid is estimated at three hundred and seventy-one three hundred and two units of account (371,302 UA), equivalent to five hundred thousand US dollars (500,000 USD).
