Madagascar – Women’s Empowerment for an Inclusive Society Project (WEMIS)

The Women Engaged in Decision-Making for a More Resilient and Inclusive Country (FEPRI) project is a sovereign operation in Madagascar in the Human Capital and Gender sectors. It comprises three components: (i) institutional support to the Ministry of Population and Solidarity (MPS) and women’s networks through studies, policy and legal support, advocacy and awareness campaigns; (ii) development of women’s entrepreneurial skills and financial inclusion through training, access to financial services, support to women entrepreneurs and “Women Champions”, and capacity building on climate change and resilience; and (iii) project management. The total project cost is UA 1.05 million, financed by a UA 1 million TSF Pillar III grant (95.24%) from the Bank and a UA 0.05 million (4.76%) contribution from the Republic of Madagascar, mainly in kind through premises, vehicles and staff time. No other co-financiers are identified. The project is anchored within the MPS, while UNFPA is responsible for implementation and administrative and financial management.
