OCHA reports that despite the severe impact of drone attacks and armed clashes across Sudan , the UN and its humanitarian partners continue to provide life-saving support to people in need. This includes efforts to detect, prevent and treat cholera. WHO has reported a sharp decline in cholera cases in recent weeks. The agency had prepositioned 60 metric tons of cholera supplies across Sudan – enough to support treatment for about 120,000 cases. WHO also strengthened disease surveillance, trained front-line health workers, and supported cholera treatment centres and oral rehydration points.…

Speaking to delegations in the Assembly’s annual General Debate , Ms. Adeng said the vote would provide South Sudanese people the opportunity to choose their own leaders democratically, 15 years after the country’s independence. She acknowledged that much work remained: electoral institutions need adequate resources, political dialogue must continue, security arrangements must advance and refugees and internally displaced persons must not be left out. “The people of South Sudan must increasingly speak for themselves, and they must speak through the ballot […] Political competition must never again become armed confrontation. The ballot must replace the bullets,” she said.…

Cameroon’s CFA86.3 billion road rehabilitation program in the Far North has fallen sharply behind schedule, with its three construction contracts less than 35% complete even though roughly four-fifths of their contractual timelines have elapsed. The three projects form part of the Far North Territorial Development and Private Sector Promotion Project (PAT) and cover 173 km of national roads. According to a review of jointly financed road projects presented in Yaoundé on September 23, 2026, and reviewed by Business in Cameroon , the contractor on Lot 1 has received a formal notice, while amendments that include deadline extensions are under preparation for Lots 2 and 3.…

Cameroon’s plantain industry association wants to raise CFA150 billion through Central Africa’s regional financial market to finance a new commercial company, but the plan remains at an early stage with no initial public offering or securities sale underway. The Filière banane-plantain du Cameroun (FBPC), led by its president Samuel Tony Obam Bikoué, met with the Central African Securities Exchange (BVMAC), brokerage firms and other participants in Douala on September 10, 2026. Cameroon has received 16,000 smart electricity meters, with government buildings first in line, as authorities seek more reliable consumption data and tighter control over public-sector power bills. At least 10,000 meters are due to be installed at government delivery points by December 30, 2026. Aid teams trying to keep deadly Ebola disease from spreading in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) are increasingly concerned about ongoing fighting and violence that has forced thousands of people to flee a displacement camp in the vast, resource-rich east of the country. The latest alert follows reports of security incidents since 20 September linked to an uptick in families fleeing Kigonze displacement camp in Bunia, northeast Ituri province.
