The Bank of Central African States (BEAC) has raised its weekly liquidity offer to commercial banks to a record CFA850 billion after weeks of exceptionally strong demand for central bank funding across the six-country Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC). During its September 22, 2026 liquidity injection, the central bank offered CFA850 billion to lenders, the highest amount since these operations began. The BEAC serves Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Chad and the Central African Republic. Commercial banks ultimately took CFA748.2 billion, equivalent to a subscription rate of just over 88%.…

AfDB Bars China Railway 20 for Fraudulent Practice in Cameroon Road Program

China Railway 20th Bureau Group Corporation (CR20) has been barred from African Development Bank (AfDB) financed operations for 13 months after an investigation found that the Chinese company engaged in a “fraudulent practice” under the first phase of Cameroon’s Transport Sector Support Program, which includes work on the Batchenga-Ntui-Yoko-Lena road corridor. The AfDB announced the sanction on September 24, 2026. During the 13-month period, CR20 and its subsidiaries cannot participate in tenders or receive contracts financed by the AfDB Group.
