Area Assurances has replaced Chanas Assurances on two Sonatrel insurance contracts worth a combined CFA990.66 million in 2026, effectively transferring nearly CFA1 billion in annual business from one insurer to the other while the overall contract value remains almost unchanged. On September 17, state-owned electricity transmission company Sonatrel awarded Area a 12-month employee health insurance contract worth CFA475.17 million, including taxes. Small and medium-sized businesses in Cameroon continue to pay substantially more for bank credit than large companies, even after their average borrowing cost declined. In the fourth quarter of 2025, the average effective lending rate for SMEs stood at 11.43%, compared with 6.72% for large companies, according to the Bank of Central African States (BEAC). The effective lending rate ( taux effectif global -TEG), measures the total cost of a loan, including the interest rate, commissions and other fees charged by banks. The gap between SMEs and large companies reached 4.71 percentage points, although it narrowed from a year earlier.…

British miner Oriole Resources has secured $1.2 million in additional funding that could support its activities in Cameroon, where the Mbe gold project in the Adamawa region now holds an inferred resource of 1.66 million ounces. The London AIM-listed company announced on September 18, 2026, that it had sold its 1.2% royalty on the Muratdere project in Turkey to Ardent Metals LLC-FZ for $1.2 million, or about CFA685.6 million. Chief Executive Martin Rosser said the proceeds could support the group’s activities in Cameroon. Oriole will not receive the full amount immediately. The company has already collected $400,000, or about CFA228.5 million.…
